A Familiar TuneCreated Apr 16, 2008 by Nellie Lee We love our stay here in Ivins. We especially love the backyard and the critters. Every morning Grandpa faithfully feeds them their birdseed. As we sit eating our breakfast we can hear them singing a familiar tune. Do-doot-tu-tu-tu! Earlier in the month when Jon and Jolynn and their family were here for a visit, Grandpa had the kids all giggling as he told them that our whole family knows the tune the quail sing. We've used it for many years as a call for help when we need something. All that giggling and storytelling turned out to be very useful when we were visiting in Annabella last week. There was something missing in the bathroom and as Grandpa hummed out the tune, Hannah ran, giggling all the way, and got him a fresh roll of toliet paper.
Cool!Created Dec 02, 2007 by Nellie Lee Grandma Lee
A few weeks ago I was playing soccer with Kade. He said something like this "my team is the Black Hulkers. Think of a name for your team." I said" my team is going to be the Green Grandmas" "No Grandma", he said "it has to be something cool." "Uhhhhhh...." Ehwie and 'MmaCreated Jul 26, 2007 by Jodi Simmons Some Maestri funnies (as told by Jodi)... With her baby brother on the way Emma has had some good questions for Jennie and Jason. They have a policy of giving straight honest answers to Emma's questions, until Emma asked, "But how does the piggy get the bacon out?" Beloved Ellie lives life with an exclamation point. She feels- Happy! Sad! Hungry! The other day she was wandering around the kitchen saying "Nummy, are you?" Only Matty could understand hunger so urgent. He'll have to teach her how to sniff out hidden treats. Holier than thou...Created Apr 03, 2007 by Jana Cherry Jodi writes: "While saying prayers tonight, Kade remembered a few weeks ago at Jennie's when Emma gave the prayer and said thanks for King Triton and Prince Eric. (She was referring to Jennie and Jason in their roles earlier in the day.) Kade said with hesitation, "we shouldn't be silly when we say our prayers, maybe Jesus is mad at Emma?" I told him I bet Jesus loves Emma extra special cuz she has such big ideas. (jennie knows this was the wrong thing to say cuz kade is always arguing with emma about who's the fastest, hungriest, silliest, whatever.) So we had to continue our discussion that Jesus loves all of us extra special. Kade was thinking about this and concluded, "Well if Emma was in heaven and didn't take her nap and was grumpy then Jesus would send her back to Earth." Maybe. Silly kids. "
Travels with RolandoCreated Mar 21, 2007 by Nellie Lee Traveling this week with Dad to Sacramento has been a lot of fun and a welcome rest. But we always have adventures. It was our plan to visit our friend Laura Kroeker while we were nearby. Grandma wanted to send her a treat so just as we were leaving she handed us a box of See's and this cute stuffed bunny. Where to put it in our already stuffed suitcase? Dad stuffed the little bunny in his carry on with his breathing machine. Naturally his machine had to be checked by the security guy at the airport. He raised his eyes in question when he saw the bunny. Dad just said "I can't sleep without it". The security guards next question was "Does it have a name?" Ahhh! We lead an adventurous and amusing life. MOM
SpringCreated Mar 10, 2007 by Jennie Maestri Finally, spring has arrived at our house! Our crocuses have started popping up out of the soil and every day there are more and more blooms. Yellow, purple, and white - so pretty. What a happy sight!
Travis wins his first wrestling medalCreated Mar 01, 2007 by Nellie Lee Travis has been taking wrestling lessons and they had a tournament. He took Third place in his weight category. He is a good athlete and a good student and a good boy. We are proud of him.
Roland and Nellie at the Art ShowCreated Feb 02, 2007 by Roland Lee The next couple of months are full of art shows and receptions. Mom is always a good sport and accompanies me everywhere even though the events are boring. This time, Jane Juber at the Mission Gallery threw a full-menu dinner at the Painted Pony restaurant for us and about 80 collectors. Very cool! Check my Travel Sketchbook blog to see all my new paintings.
Brianna Lee - 3 Weeks OldCreated Jan 31, 2007 by Jon Lee Brianna had her 2 week appointment last week in St. George. She checked out fine except for only gaining a few ounces, instead of our customary 1-2 lbs by the 2 week visit. Brianna is a dainty little girl with fine features. She squeeks and makes a lot of funny little noises when she is not nursing which is 24/7. Luckily Jolynn has a stack of new books from the Richfield library to enjoy while non-stop nursing. Trouble is - Dad isn't very good at keeping the house in ship shape. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the baby blessing on Sunday.
Grandpa and BriannaCreated Jan 28, 2007 by Roland Lee Grandpa and Travis hold little Brianna. She is a beautiful little girl and everyone loves her.
A Night on the TownCreated Jan 28, 2007 by Roland Lee We were invited to a $100 apiece "gala" at the St. George Art Museum. Very froofy with lots of schmoozing. Sarah came to the resuce with her special "cruise" dress for mom. Dad wore his best mission suit with a red tie. Don't we look elegant?
Jon Lee Family Christmas ListCreated Dec 08, 2006 by Jon Lee Travis loves legos and BYU cougar apparel. He is reading a lot and likes Horrible Harry, Secrets of Droon, Magic Treehouse and information books. Size 8-10. Alyss is really into crafts and coloring. Also, anything Barbie, Polly Pockets or froofy girlie type stuff. Size 7. Hannah is into My Little Pony, Barbie, Dora the Explorer and Holly Hobby. Size 5. Max is into anything with wheels. He likes balls too and board books with farm animals. Size 2-T. Jolynn likes Deseret Book gift cards and decorating stuff. Jon likes anything to do with Hunting (12 Gauge shotgun shells - pheasant load), Fishing (Bass lures) or tools (Pliers, Vise Grips, Screwdrivers and any other hand tools). Cherry ChristmasCreated Nov 29, 2006 by Jana Cherry Matty would like Lincoln Logs. He told Santa at the mall he wanted three things because he is three, a lightsaber, a new trumpet (plastic recorder) and Superman action figure. I think Santa will have those three covered. He's perfect for games like candyland, chutes and ladders, memory etc, but he doesn't have any kids games like that yet. His favorite tv shows are Disney's "Little Einsteins" "The Magic School Bus" and "Go Diego". His favorite books from the library are "Berenstain Bears". His favorite thing to do is "ART" and of course he thinks he actually IS a superhero, so anything related is very well received. He wears a 4T shirt and 3T pants, 4T jams. Katie thinks anything Little People is especially tastey. Katie is currently in 12 month stuff, but 18 months stuff would be best for winter wear, I'd project 18-24 for springish things. She's in special need of jammies. Jana is interested in cookbooks, phil in anything woodworking/homeowning, how-to's and such. (And of course, bass boats, big trucks, plasma screens, etc...Sound familiar, Jon? :) ) We have the "Book of Mormon for Latter-Day Saint Families" on our wish list. We can't get mormon stuff very easily around here.. We are mostly just so excited to see everyone that we can't wait!! Yippee! Jolynn's BirthdayCreated Nov 28, 2006 by Jon Lee I know, I know - we will get our christmas list up soon. But, first I wanted to share the pictures from Jolynn's birthday party. Her Mom made us all a yummy dinner so Jolynn didn't have to cook or do dishes. I talked Jolynn's Sister Heidi into baking a cake or two since Heidi is an amazing cook, and since I am a lazy husband. The party turned out nicely and after all that good food we sat down and watched Monday Night Football. Jolynn was happy to visit with her family while the boys took in some NFL action. For her birthday I bought her a framed Simon Dewey picture of the Savior with some children to go over our mantle. She also got flowers, some DVD's "Love comes Softly" set, nail polish from Alyssa (I talked her out of blue nail polish), and some Reeses Peanut Butter cups from Travis. We love our Mom. She takes really good care of us qweekers.
Simmons ChristmasCreated Nov 27, 2006 by Jodi Simmons Kade- probably size 4T, shoes 9? Loves super hero stuff- action figures, pajamas, costumes, etc. Loves his trains and hot wheels. Would love "a superman and castle like travis has", justice league anything, "power rangers like Keanon has", and he'd kill for a Batmobile. He'd like Little Einsteins dvds, and he'd really like for some snow and Matty to visit. Kyle and I- we hope to be getting our new house set up by Christmas. We'd love a babysitter (full time would be great, but we'd take an occasional outing instead!). We frequent Jamba Juice, Cafe Rio, and make daily trips to Lowes. Kyle would love do some skiing. We ain't proud- we don't mind hand me downs- we could use a portable DVD player for car, laptop or hand me down computer, digital camera (ours doesn't work very well indoors), couch, a great leather chair. And since the Maestri's brought it up, we sure could use a truck to pull the boat sitting in our driveway. Yippee! Don't you just love Christmas! Kade thinks we should put "spooky lights on our tree, like a haunted house." Should be exciting. We are excited to see you all soon! Love, Jodi, Kyle, Kade and Zach Maestri Christmas ListCreated Nov 25, 2006 by Jennie Maestri Maestri Family Christmas wishes -- Emma Ellie Jennie & Jason Christmas WishesCreated Nov 20, 2006 by none Hopefully this list will give you guys an idea of what our kids like and have asked for. I'm still trying to get Jim to think of some things he would like.
Christian Sizes: Pants and Shirts M (8-10), shoes Fall Cleanup and Snowy DaysCreated Oct 26, 2006 by Jon Lee This morning we awoke to about an inch of snow on the ground. The kids were off school for a teacher prep day so I stayed home and had fun with the kids. Alyssa got me out of bed bright and early to help her build a snowman. Unfortunately, the snow was too powdery and we couldn't even get a proper snowball out of it. By lunch time the snow had melted so Max and Hannah helped me mow up all of the leaves off of our lawn. There are still so many leaves still on the trees. One more good windy day and they will be gone. Max was helping me with the weeding.
Max loves to be outside to help his Dad.
Yep 5th Annual Pumpkin Carving PartyCreated Oct 24, 2006 by Jon Lee This past Monday we had our 5th annual pumpkin carving party. This year our host Trent Staheli is living in the UK while working on his Masters. So we didn't carve pumpkins at the Staheli Barn in Washington, Utah. This year we had the pumpkin carving party in our own barn. Their were many new faces but the party was still a big hit. It is fun to start and carry on some of our own family traditions. We are looking forward to Travis' baptism in a couple weeks on November 4th at 1:00 pm.
If I were a birdCreated Oct 13, 2006 by Jodi Simmons Kade was looking out the car window while we were driving today and said, "I wish I could be a bird." Intrigued, I asked why. "So, I could fly with the birds," he said. I asked him where he would fly. He thought about it for a few seconds and said, "To Hannah's." It looks like it's time for another visit to Richfield! We love you guys. Holiday PlansCreated Oct 01, 2006 by Jana Cherry I wasn't sure what family plans are for the Holidays, but I wanted to make an official announcement that we'll be in St. George from the 23rd of December to the 3rd of January. (Flying in and out of Vegas airport). What are the plans of all the northerlies? Can we see you in the south? How 'bout a wild new years get together. Love to all. Jana and the clan
BYU Game with Travis and KaysonCreated Sep 23, 2006 by Roland Lee It turned out to be a nice sunny day at the BYU-Utah State football game. Grandpa Lee, Jon and Travis, Jim and Kayson, and Marcus Rose enjoyed it as BYU won the game 38-0. Travis and Kayson had a good time going back and forth to the snack bar. Thanks Jon for the tickets and the great seats!
A Quick Cabin OvernightCreated Sep 19, 2006 by Roland Lee You might not recognize this room at the teen cabin. But it is finally finished and decorated and waiting for someone to come try it out. Dad wanted some outdoor time so we took a quick trip to the cabin and enjoyed our evening and morning there. We even managed a cabin breakfast. The night was cold, but the stars were fabulous when we went for our 3 a.m. walk. The colors are starting to turn - Wow, we sure love the cabin! Alyssa and Hannah Birthday PartyCreated Sep 10, 2006 by Jon Lee Alyssa and Hannah share a Birthday party each year out of convenience. Their birthdays are only a few days apart (Hannah September 5th, Alyssa September 11th). This year the family party was right after a baby shower at our house for Jolynn's little sister Katelyn. Jolynn's older Sister Stephanie made the girls 50's diner waitress costumes, and some truly magnificent princess dresses. The party was a big hit and the girls got spoiled even more than they already were. Oh well, we think they are cute and can't help it.
BYU vs TulsaCreated Sep 10, 2006 by Jon Lee What a great game. Roland and Jon attended this one with Travis. Dan Chidester and Justin and Bradon came along as well. After we barely made it to the game in time (I forgot the tickets in Richfield). We got to the game a few minutes late and found our seats just in time to see the first touchdown. Travis had fun at his first BYU game in years. He especially enjoyed the food. He ate hotdogs, popcorn and nachos for lunch and then topped it off with ice cream. We left the game a little early because of a bizarre lightning delay. We were trying to get home in time to watch Alyssa and Hannah open presents at thier Birthday Party.
Blogs? We don't need no stinkin' blogs!Created Sep 07, 2006 by Jim Lee Just so nobody thinks I am a party pooper, I am posting to this blog. I don't have any pictures though on this computer so I am posting this one of my most sunshiney of children. He is the man of a thousand smiley faces. We are excited to see every one at Capitol Reef and to get my second long weekend in a row! WHOOPEE! Hey, I wonder if I can put any old kind of HTML in here, like a font that is SUPER HUGE. Masters of the UniverseCreated Sep 07, 2006 by Jana Cherry Phil celebrated his youthfulness on his 26th birthday with an entire box of his old he-man, transformer, and thundercat toys. Matty was in heaven playing He-Man and "Chance Farmers" with dad. Katie wasn't quite sure what to make of it all. Check out the read more pic.
Katelyn's Taste of He-Man
Ewwww, boy stuff. Building a hut at the cabinCreated Sep 06, 2006 by Roland Lee We had a fun time at the cabin with Jim, Barb, Christian, Kayson, Keanon, and Kelsey. The boys and grandpa built an A-frame hut.
Keanon at work
Keanon's inventions kept his mind busy and his hands hard at work. Hannah Birthday - It's a Girl!Created Sep 06, 2006 by Jon Lee This weekend we went down to St. George for Jolynn's 20 week doctor appointment and ultrasound. We had a fun time staying with Grandma and Grandpa at thier cute little condo. Hannah expecially enjoyed a small birthday celebration with balloons and a cabbage patch kid. She even got to eat German Pancakes off of the special day plate. Jolynn was pleased to find all is well with the baby, a girl. The hormonal balance is quickly shifting to the dark side.
8 Lee Kids in AnnabellaCreated Sep 03, 2006 by Jon Lee Grandma Lee requested a Sunday picture of these 8 silly kids, but Christian was too fast at changing out of his Sunday clothes. It was hard enough to get them all to hold still for a minute. The kids had a blast playing in the yard and goofing off together. We had a fun tailgate party with Pizza and hot wings for the BYU football game. Even though they lost we still found hope in a good defense and some offensive sparks. Tomorrow we hope to play some more and ride four wheelers and romp in the country. Not Another Puppy!Created Aug 28, 2006 by Jon Lee It is true. Saturday we became the proud owners of a third German Shorthair puppy. Travis went with me to get some dog food from our neighbor who is a Black Gold dog food dealer. Turns out he had more puppies than he knew what to do with, 6 left out of 15 puppies. Travis asked if he could have one and the guy said sure, take your pick. Travis was excited and with a price of FREE Jolynn didn't even mind another stinkin dog. Travis thought of the name Rocky late Saturday night while watching PBR with me. Then we decided to name him Rocky Road because of his chocolate coloring. So we added yet another critter to our stables, we welcome Annabella's Rocky Road to our home. He is 9 weeks old and loves to play fetch with Travis.
Farewell, AceCreated Aug 25, 2006 by Jana Cherry Ace, our Superdog. Isn't he Sweet? :)
We parted with our pup this week. He sure was a good dog- even if he did eat my pizza, slime my friend, jump on the visitors, make me sneeze and leave his slobber at the bottom of the steps (which I slipped in.) I ended up actually falling in like with a canine- something I hadn't thought possible. We will always remember and miss our Superdog, Ace. Especially Matty, who loved having Ace protect him at night- which Ace did faithfully at nap time too.
Mom and Dad Visit AnnabellaCreated Aug 24, 2006 by Roland and I visited the Lee's in annabella and spent our first night in the guest roon. We were disappointed that there isn't a plasma tv and x box in the guest room. We played with the kids while Jon and Jolynn went to "Back to School " night for Alyssa. Jon and Roland fed the chickens and played with the dogs and went for a 4-wheeler ride in the rain. We delivered a new chair to Jon from Costco that has been living in Sarah's garage. She was glad to get it out of the way.
Chidester's First Grandchild Married?Created Aug 24, 2006 by This past weekend we got all gussied up for yet another family wedding. This one was in a LDS chapel in Heber City, UT. Jolynn's oldest sister Danette watched her oldest daughter Amber walk down the isle. Alyssa and Hannah especially enjoy wedding because the get to dress up and dance to music. Their two most favorite things. It is weird to thing that Grandpa Chidester could be a Great Grandfather very soon. Now that's old.
